I treat  adults, adolescents, couples, & families. I am trained in both traditional psychotherapy as well as Clinical Health Psychology.  I hold a bachelor's degree, two Master's Degrees, and a Doctorate in Clinical Psychology.

As many people  struggle with both emotional and physical issues, my training in these two areas allows the best service for my patients.   Understanding the many facets of psychological and medical conditions helps me guide you to solve your problem(s) with confidence and with the most informed, research-based treatments available.

In addition to providing general psychotherapy,  I specialize in the following areas:

Coping with Chronic & Terminal Illness

Coping with an illness becomes easier when the "problems" are clarified objectively and you learn problem solving skills specific to coping with your illness. Support from trained professionals, family & friends go a long way in overcoming your fears, sadness, and stress - but professional help from a psychologist is often needed.  With motivation, guidance, education, and compassion, I believe anyone can improve their quality of life after being diagnosed with a serious illness. Many people have  lived a more rewarding life after a serious illness allowed them to "put things in perspective".  I look forward to helping you achieve a more satisfied, informed, and higher quality of life.

 Pregnancy, Postpartum & Infertility Issues

There are few things more stressful than preparing to raise a child, caring for that child, or the inability to have a child.  The stress on couples, mothers, and the family can be overwhelming and very disruptive.  If depression or anxiety is overcoming your ability to function well as a family, I can help you learn to decrease stress, and gain more positive coping skills.  I will use my expertise to guide you to your maternal goals.

Biofeedback
Let me help you learn to control anxiety, blood pressure, headaches, panic attacks, pain, and much more -- all without the use of drugs.  Biofeedback has been described as "Westernized Yoga" given its success in teaching those to relax and rid their life of harmful emotional & physical stress.

Anxiety, Fears, & Phobias

Many people filter their world through a layer of anxiety, they limit their potential through fears or phobias, and basically, do not LIVE LIKE THEY WANT TO or ACHEIVE WHAT THEY WANT TO.    Conditions such as general life anxiety (i.e. STRESS), fear of public speaking, & fear(s) of specific objects often limit your life, but can be treated successfully.  Most of these are learned fears and can be unlearned.  If you experience chronic stress or fears that keep you from achieving your goals and the success you desire, I can help.

Grief
The loss of a loved one or other major life transitions/losses can hurt beyond the scope of words. Grief can last for years if you don't deal with it, and it can cause both physical and psychological suffering. At your pace, we can work together to get you through grief's "rough period", as well as explore alternative methods of coping and "meaning".  Two of my greatest pleasures are (1) helping people "learn to live again" despite their loss, and (2) accompanying them on this life journey to help them learn, change, & reach a place of personal comfort and growth.

Discreet, Highly Confidential Counseling for Medical Professionals
Due to the sensitive nature of your profession as a physician, nurse, or therapist - your medical and emotional health treatment needs to be kept strictly confidential from potential clients, insurance companies, and other third party intrusions. I offer specialized therapy services that meet your needs in resolving personal issues that impede your practice success and/or your life satisfaction. I also offer consultation services that teach you the skills to better serve your patients.  Examples include:  identifying emotional barriers to treatment, ways to decrease unnecessary health care utilization, and education regarding the biopsychosocial management of illness. I will also work with your patients to educate them as well as conduct on-site support groups for specific illness populations.
